Reflecting on this past year has been harder than normal as the past year has been anything but normal.
At the beginning of 2020, I was full of hope for the year ahead. I was moving back to Scotland to be closer to friends and family, I was going to explore our beautiful country, and I was going to start my own business. A couple of months later it became clear that I was moving home but my plans would have to wait.
Still, I launched The Nectary, albeit a little differently and quite a bit later than originally planned - missing the main flower season - but I was still able to launch. So, the last few months of 2020 turned out to be, well something else!
Since our launch on 23rd September 2020, we have designed 30 different weekly bouquet styles, have had the pleasure of creating wedding florals for those in love letting nothing stand in their way, and had the privilege of creating farewell flowers for loved ones.
Starting 2021 in a national lockdown wasn’t what anyone hoped. The difference in 2021 is that we have already been through this. And although we know there are still tough times ahead, there is still hope. Despite what 2020 threw at us, we are still able to look back and pull out some good that happened. No matter how small or big, those moments are there! So, although 2021 didn’t start as we hoped, we can still have hope, for we know good things will still happen – just maybe not as planned.
So looking to 2021, I am optimistic...
I am confident that at some point I will get to truly experience what it is like to be living back home surrounded by friends and family.
I am extremely excited that in a couple of months the variety, colours and scents of flowers will be exploding. I launched The Nectary at the end of 2020, which isn’t really the best time for flowers. But we will soon be in spring, when the flower season starts, and I cannot wait to be spoiled for choice – especially as we have 104 weekly designs to create in 2021
I am nervous but looking forward to taking The Nectary to the next stage and opening our flagship store in Mauchline (as soon as it is safe to do so). We will be expanding our floral offerings, bringing in lots of greenery for your homes and gardens, launching a variety of eco-friendly collections from local and British artisans, and holding a variety of creative workshops for kids and adults.
I am ready for whatever it throws at me because wherever flowers bloom so does hope.
